Liverpool have already signed a staggering seven players in the summer transfer window. However, the supporters’s insatiable appetite for transfers means the Reds continue to be linked with a number of further additions. Most pressing in the signing of a new left-back. Alberto Moreno’s erratic performances frustrated most Liverpool supporters – and Jurgen Klopp if reports are to be believed – in the second half of the season. Jonas Hector seems like a natural solution. Klopp has already utilised his Bundesliga knowledge to recruit four players from Germany this summer. Hector, 26, has been steadily improving at Koln and would certainly fit the bill in terms of Liverpool’s growing German influence in the engine room.

It’s been something of a merry-go-round in the Liverpool midfielder. Sergi Canos, Jordan Rossiter, Joe Allen and Jordon Ibe have all been sold in the summer, while Georginio Wijnaldum and Sadio Mane have been signed to bolster Klopp’s midfield. However, could Allen’s departure to Stoke City indicate that a deep-lying midfielder could be Anfield-bound? Lucas Leiva’s legs are ageing with injuries becoming more frequent, Jordan Henderson has fitness concerns of his own and Emre Can still shows signs of naivety. Barcelona midfielder Ivan Rakitic has an abundance of experience and would add a dash of class to Klopp’s midfield.

Max Meyer

If Rakitic doesn’t leave Barcelona this summer, then Klopp could turn his attention to Schalke star Max Meyer. The German head coach is reported to be a long-term admirer of the 20-year-old. Despite his relative inexperience, the Germany international has already emerged as a key part of the Schalke side. Meyer scored five goals and eight assists in 32 appearances last season. The midfielder’s valued at £28.1m, though, which could price City out of a move.
