Michael Owen is tipping Liverpool FC to continue their 100 per cent start to the season in the Premier League by beating Chelsea FC at Stamford Bridge on Sunday afternoon.
The Reds head into the game looking to preserve their brilliant start to the new campaign as Jurgen Klopp’s men aim to lift the Premier League trophy this season.
Liverpool FC are currently five points clear at the top of the Premier League table after Manchester City lost to Norwich City last weekend in a shock result.
The Merseyside outfit did, however, suffer a defeat in the Champions League in midweek when they lost 2-0 away to Napoli in their group-stage opener.
Chelsea FC also suffered a Champions League loss on Tuesday night when they went down 1-0 to Valencia at Stamford Bridge.
Former England striker Owen is fully expecting to see Liverpool FC win Sunday’s game but he is also tipping Chelsea FC to get on the score-sheet.
Writing in his column for BetVictor, Owen said: “Despite both sides suffering midweek Champions League reverses, this is the game of the weekend and, arguably, the first serious test so far this league season of Liverpool’s title aspirations.
“There was little between the sides in the European Super Cup in Istanbul last month, and I don’t expect there will be much between the sides at Stamford Bridge although I do think the Reds will gain their 15th successive league win.
“Chelsea’s exciting young English players continue to go from strength-to-strength and I’m particularly looking forward to seeing how Tammy Abraham fares against Virgil Van Dijk and Joel Matip.
“At the time of writing it looks doubtful whether Mason Mount will have recovered from injury, however, having been on the end of a poor tackle from Valencia’s former Arsenal midfielder Francis Coquelin on his Champions League debut midweek.
“It promises to be an absolute cracker, but Liverpool are taken to maintain their perfect start to the domestic season.”
Liverpool FC are aiming to try and win the Premier League this season after they finished second and just a point behind Manchester City last term.
The Reds did, however, win their first major title under Klopp last term by lifting the Champions League trophy.
