Ole Gunnar Solskjaer heaped praise on Manchester United signing Daniel James after the Welsh winger’s impressive cameo performance in Sunday’s 4-0 victory over Chelsea FC on Sunday afternoon.
The Wales international was the first new arrival at Old Trafford this summer after Manchester United signed James in a £17m deal from Championship outfit Swansea City in June.
The 21-year-old arrived at Manchester United with one full season of professional football under his belt after James impressed at Swansea last term.
James has impressed during Manchester United’s pre-season campaign and Solskjaer opted to start the Welsh midfielder on the bench for their clash against Chelsea FC.
The Red Devils boss turned to James in the 74th minute with Manchester United 3-0 up courtesy of Marcus Rashford’s double and Anthony Martial’s goal.
And James managed to score on his debut in front of the Stretford End to cap what has been a whirlwind summer for the Welshman.
Speaking to Sky Sports about James’ debut goal, Solskjaer said:
“Suddenly you become a good player, don’t you? No, it’s hard work and dedication and it’s what you want from a pro.
“He has pace and he’s got an X factor, he’s worked really hard and so pleased for him, it’s been a summer of ups and downs as we all know so to score in front of the Stretford End must be a proud moment for him.”
Manchester United hoisted themselves up to second place in the Premier League table ahead of bitter rivals Liverpool FC.
Solskjaer’s side will make the trip to Wolves in their next Premier League fixture on Monday 19 August.
The Red Devils also signed Crystal Palace defender Aaron Wan-Bissaka and Leicester centre-half Harry Maguire this summer.
