Roy Keane reacts to Arsenal’s 3-2 loss to Southampton

Roy Keane criticised Bernd Leno for being at fault for Southampton’s winner in their 3-2 win over Arsenal on Sunday afternoon.

Arsenal had twice fought back from a goal down thanks to two goals from Henrikh Mkhitaryan on the south coast.

However, Charlie Austin ended up scoring the winner for the Saints when he headed home Shane Long’s cross at the death.

Summer signing Leno was caught off his line and was beaten to the ball by Austin as the home side claimed all three points.

The result was Arsenal’s first defeat in the Premier League since their loss to Chelsea FC back at the end of August.

And Manchester United legend Keane was clearly not particularly impressed by Arsenal’s defending on Sunday afternoon.

Keane said on Sky Sports: “The decision-making [from Leno for the final goal was poor].

“As soon as the ball leaves Shane Long’s foot, you’re thinking that the goalkeeper is in trouble.”

He continued: “We keep talking about a bit of steel in this Arsenal team. I’ve still got huge doubts about them defensively.”

The result left Arsenal in fifth place in the Premier League table and three points behind fourth-placed Chelsea FC.

The Gunners will now switch their attentions towards their League Cup quarter-final clash against Tottenham Hotspur at The Emirates next week.
