Arsenal have sent scouts to watch Atalanta’s impressive defender Gianluca Mancini, according to a report in Italy.
Italian media website Transfer Market Web, as quoted by The Sun, is reporting that the Gunners have been keeping tabs on the 22-year-old defender in recent weeks.
According to the same article, Arsenal representatives watched Mancini’s performance in Atalanta’s 4-1 rout of Inter Milan in Serie A last weekend.
Indeed, Mancini got on the score sheet in the landslide win to impress in front of Arsenal’s scouts as the Serie A outfit won their fourth successive league game.
TMW go on to claim that Arsenal will face competition from Serie A giants Fiorentina and Inter Milan for the Italian defender’s signature.
The report suggests that Borussia Dortmund could also launch an offer for the Atalanta star after his eye-catching start to the 2018-19 season.
Mancini has scored three goals in eight games in Serie A this season, finding the net in his last three outings against Parma, Bologna and Inter Milan.
Atalanta have conceded 10 times when Mancini has featured in their team in 10 games in all competitions in the current campaign.
Mancini would be the only Italian player in the Arsenal squad should a transfer to the north London side materialise.
The Italy Under-21 international would be competing against Rob Holding, Shkodran Mustafi, Sokratis Papastathopoulos and Laurent Koscielny for a starting spot at the Gunners.
