Liverpool FC weighed up three potential defensive signings before the Reds completed a deal to sign Virgil van Dijk, according to a report in England.
The Daily Mail is reporting that the Merseyside outfit looked at potential alternatives in the 2017 summer transfer window after Southampton refused to sign Van Dijk.
The same article states that the Reds considered a bid to sign then-Burnley defender Michael Keane, current Tottenham centre-half Davison Sanchez and Napoli’s Senegal international Kalidou Koulibaly.
According to the same story, the Reds decided that Van Dijk was a superior player to the trio and ultimately opted to sign the Dutch star in January in a world record £75m deal.
The Reds have made significant progress over the past nine months or so following some key addition to the Liverpool FC team.
Liverpool FC signed Brazil number one Alisson Becker in a £67m switch from Serie A giants AS Roma last month.
Klopp has started Joe Gomez alongside Van Dijk in their opening two Premier League fixtures.
The Merseyside outfit kept clean sheets in victories over West Ham United and Crystal Palace to hoist themselves up to second spot in the Premier League table.
