Jurgen Klopp insists he is not surprised by Joe Gomez’s impressive form for Liverpool FC at the start of the Premier League season.
The England international has impressed in the opening two games of the Premier League season.
Gomez has started alongside Van Dijk in the heart of the Liverpool FC defence in the absence of Dejan Lovren.
Liverpool FC have won their opening two Premier League fixtures without conceding a goal.
The Merseyside outfit were 4-0 winners against West Ham United at Anfield thanks to goals from Mo Salah, Sadio Mane and Daniel Sturridge.
Liverpool FC eased to a 2-0 victory over Crystal Palace at Selhurst Park as Gomez impressed at the back.
Speaking to Liverpool FC’s website about Gomez’s impact at the start of the Premier League season, Klopp said:
“I was never in doubt about Joe and his ability to play at centre-half, but he needed time after a long injury… now he’s fit and he’s a very good football player, he can play the position good. Together with Virgil, they have a very good understanding – on a personal level as well, that’s really cool.”
The Reds are without Croatia international Lovren as the centre-half recovers his fitness following a demanding World Cup campaign.
Liverpool FC lost 3-1 to La Liga giants Real Madrid in the Champions League final in Kiev back in May.
The 18-time English champions have never won the Premier League title but are being tipped as contenders this term.
Liverpool FC will be hoping to launch a sustained title challenge under Klopp this term.
