Jurgen Klopp has joked that it is one of his life goals to “make Jose Mourinho smile” after the Manchester United manager’s comments about his Liverpool FC team.
The Red Devils boss suggested that Liverpool FC are under pressure to be one of the main contenders for the Premier League title next season after their transfer business this summer.
Liverpool FC have signed Naby Keita, Fabinho, Xherdan Shaqiri and Alisson Becker so far this summer as Klopp strengthened his squad ahead of next term.
The Reds are still looking to win their first major trophy since Klopp’s appointment at Anfield back in October 2015.
And following Mourinho’s comments about his Liverpool FC team, Klopp has been quick to fire a message back to the Red Devils boss ahead of the start of the new campaign.
Asked if Mourinho was trying to play mind games, Klopp told Sky Sports: ‘Yeah, for sure, a little bit but that’s OK.
“But I heard as well that Jose found me funny and one of my biggest goals in life is to make Jose smile! It doesn’t happen too often and if it happens because of Liverpool – well done!
“I said a few things [in the past]. I cannot really remember what I said but I know what I said about the Pogba transfer.
“I would never talk about Manchester United unless somebody asks me about it but I am polite enough to give an answer if somebody asks me.
“That’s not always the smartest thing to do, and I have absolutely no problem with what Jose Mourinho is saying. It is a free world and he can say whatever he wants.
“If he is happy about our transfers even better, but we know that it does not mean you win automatically, whatever.”
Liverpool FC ended up in fourth place in the Premier League Table last season and reached the Champions League final under Klopp.
Manchester United also endured a trophyless campaign last term as the Red Devils ended up in second place in the Premier League table and missed out on the FA Cup.
