Arsenal are hoping to see off competition from Liverpool FC in the race to sign Max Meyer, according to a report.
Website Transfermarketweb, as quoted by the Daily Express, is reporting that the Gunners have identified Meyer as a potential signing in the summer transfer window.
The same article states that Gunners boss Unai Emery wants to add more firepower to his squad ahead of his first season in charge of the north London club.
According to the same story, Jurgen Klopp is interested in Meyer but Liverpool FC are set to focus their attention on other more immediate targets.
Meyer would certainly fit the bill of an Arsenal signing given the German star is a free agent.
Arsenal have already signed five players in the summer transfer window to spend the majority of Emery’s reported £50m transfer budget, although Switzerland international Stephan Lichtsteiner did move on a free transfer.
Lucas Torreira is the Gunners’ most expensive signing of the summer after the Uruguay international completed a £26m switch to Arsenal from Serie A side Sampdoria.
Arsenal have also signed Bernd Leno, Sokratis Papastathopoulos and Matteo Guendouzi this summer to bolster Emery’s squad following his appointment as Arsene Wenger’s successor.
