Arsenal have made an approach to sign Sevilla midfielder Steven N’Zonzi, according to a report in Italy.
Italian website Calciomercato is reporting that the Gunners have stepped up their interest in the World Cup winner.
The same article states that N’Zonzi is open to the prospect of a return to the Premier League and the holding midfielder is excited about the prospect of working with Unai Emery again.
The Arsenal manager coached the France international for 12 months at Sevilla before he took over the reins of Ligue 1 side Paris Saint-Germain back in 2016.
According to the same story, the Gunners have been long-term admirers of the France international since his spells at English duo Blackburn Rovers and Stoke City.
Emery took over the reins of the north London side from Arsene Wenger back in May after the French coach stood down following 22 seasons in charge at The Emirates.
Arsenal signed experienced Switzerland international Stephan Lichtsteiner in a free transfer from Serie A giants Juventus.
The Gunners have also brought in Bayer Leverkusen goalkeeper Bernd Leno in a £20m deal.
The north London outfit have also brought on Greece international Sokratis Papastathopoulos from Borussia Dortmund earlier this month.
Lucas Torreira completed a £26m switch from Sampdoria last week before the Gunners signed French teenager Matteo Guendouzi.
