Mark Lawrenson is tipping Liverpool FC to secure a top-four finish in the Premier League this season by beating Brighton and Hove Albion 2-0 at Anfield on Sunday.
The Reds suffered a disappointing 1-0 loss to Chelsea FC in the top flight at Stamford Bridge last weekend to dent their hopes of securing Champions League qualification.
However, Liverpool FC’s task was made easier when Chelsea FC dropped points against Huddersfield Town in midweek, meaning that Liverpool FC now only need to avoid defeat against Brighton to secure a top-four finish and a place in the Champions League.
And former Liverpool FC star Lawrenson is fully expecting to see the Reds claim all three points in front of their home fans on Sunday.
Writing in his column for BBC Sport, Lawrenson said: “Liverpool’s superior goal difference means they only need a point to be sure of finishing above Chelsea and making the top four, and I think the Reds will get the result they need.
“Brighton secured their survival by beating Manchester United last Friday night and they are not fighting for anything anymore.
“All three promoted teams – Newcastle, Huddersfield and the Seagulls – have stayed up and they have fought hard for it, because all of three of them have barely scratched the top half of the table since the end of November.”
Liverpool FC are aiming to end the season with a trophy when they take on Real Madrid in the Champions League final at the end of the month.
The Reds have been in fine form in Europe’s elite club competition, and they are looking to try and win their first piece of silverware since Jurgen Klopp’s appointment at Anfield back in 2015.
Liverpool FC finished in fourth place in the Premier League last season.
