Frank Lampard admitted that Liverpool FC will have “mixed emotions” after their 5-2 win over AS Roma in the first leg of their Champions League semi-final clash on Tuesday night.
The Reds took a 2-0 lead into half-time thanks to two brilliant finishes from the in-form Mohamed Salah on Merseyside.
Liverpool FC then ran riot in the second half and went 5-0 up thanks to two goals from Roberto Firmino and Sadio Mane’s close-range finish.
However, AS Roma gave themselves some hope ahead of the second leg in Italy next week when Edin Dzeko pulled a goal back for the visitors, and Diego Perotti then netted a penalty to make it 5-2.
Liverpool FC were dominant for large spells of the game but former England star Lampard feels that the Reds will be rueing their inability to kill the game at 5-0.
Speaking to BT Sport after the final whistle, Lampard said: “Liverpool were brilliant in how they ripped them apart but it will be mixed emotions.
“I’m sure the manger will be upset because they’ve given them a small glimpse.
“That being said, they’ve shown that they can score goals next week as well.”
Liverpool FC will now switch their attentions back towards Premier League affairs and their clash with Stoke City on Saturday.
The Reds will then start to think about the return leg in Rome on Wednesday night next week as they look to set up a Champions League final against either Real Madrid or Bayern Munich.
