Rio Ferdinand raves about ‘mind boggling’ Liverpool FC star

Rio Ferdinand has raved about Mohamed Salah’s “mind boggling” form after the Liverpool FC forward scored twice in Tuesday night’s 5-2 win against AS Roma in the first leg of their Champions League semi-final.

The Reds star was named the PFA player of the year last weekend after Salah scooped the domestic honour ahead of Premier League winner Kevin De Bruyne following his incredible debut season at Anfield.

Salah broke the deadlock in the 35th minute with a brilliant finish before the African forward netted his 43rd goal of the 2017-18 season thanks to dinked goal on the stroke of half-time.

The Liverpool FC star teed up Roberto Firmino and Sadio Mane to secure a commanding lead before the Brazil international made it 5-0 before late goals from Edin Dzeko and Diego Perotti.

Salah is four goals short of Ian Rush’s record of 47 goals in a single season with a minimum of four games left to play in the 2017-18 campaign.

Former Manchester United defender Ferdinand heaped praise on Salah for his incredible season.

“It’s all down to confidence,” Ferdinand told BT Sport.

“If you see the stats that he’s producing, it’s mind boggling. If you hit a bit of form, that confidence comes and you elevate yourself as a player.

“He’s probably beyond even what he dreamed of at times. He’s doing it consistently and now he’s set a benchmark. We’ll see next year if he can remain at this level.”

Liverpool FC haven’t won the Champions League title since 2005 when the Reds beat AC Milan on penalties after coming from 3-0 down to beat the Italian giants on penalties.
