Juan Mata sends classy message to Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger

Juan Mata has dedicated a classy message to Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger after the Frenchman announced that he will stand down at the end of the season.

The Gunners boss has called time on his Arsenal reign following 22 seasons in charge of the north London club following his appointment in 1996.

Wenger’s side haven’t won the Premier League title since 2003-04 when the Gunners finished the season unbeaten with club legends such as Thierry Henry and Patrick Vieira in the team.

Arsenal haven’t come close to winning the top-flight crown in the intervening seasons and missed out on a top-four spot for the first time under Wenger last term.

The Gunners haven’t won a European trophy under Wenger and haven’t managed to reach the Champions League quarter-finals since 2010.

However, Wenger has won three Premier League titles and a record seven FA Cup crowns during his long reign.

And Mata, who has a good goal-scoring record against Wenger’s Arsenal side, paid credit to the Gunners manager on his personal blog.

“This game [Man United v Arsenal] comes soon after Arsène Wenger’s announcement that he will leave Arsenal after so many years in the club. All my respect and my best wishes to him for the future,” Mata wrote. “As a manager, he is without a doubt a legend in English and world football.”

Arsenal will take on La Liga giants Atletico Madrid in the Europa League semi-finals this week.

The Gunners can qualify for the Champions League if Arsenal win the Europa League this term.
