Ian Wright claims Man United boss Jose Mourinho will always be ‘special one’

Ian Wright is adamant that Manchester United manager Jose Mourinho will always be a “special one”.

The Red Devils boss has been criticised for his lack of an impact at Manchester United since taking over the reins in 2016.

Mourinho led Manchester United to Europa League and League Cup glory in his debut season in charge at Old Trafford.

However, Manchester United finished in sixth place in the Premier League Table and were criticised for some turgid performances.

There has been a big improvement in their position in the Premier League this season, although the Red Devils are struggling to produce exciting attacking displays.

Manchester United are in second place in the Premier League table but 16 points behind Manchester City.

The Red Devils suffered a surprise 2-1 loss to Spanish side Sevilla in the Champions League last 16 earlier this month.

While some pundits have accused Mourinho of losing his magic, former Arsenal striker Wright has a different point of view.

“Jose will always be the special one,” Wright told BBC Radio 5 Live. “To win the Champions League, you have to be the special one.”

Manchester United can still finish the 2017-18 season with some silverware if the Red Devils manage to beat Tottenham Hotspur in the last four.

The 20-time English champions haven’t won the Premier League title since Sir Alex Ferguson stood down as manager in 2013.
