Chelsea FC legend hints 58-year-old would be open to replacing Antonio Conte

Pat Nevin believes Carlo Ancelotti would be open to return to Chelsea FC if Antonio Conte is sacked.

The current Blues boss is facing an uncertain future at the west London outfit after a difficult start to 2018.

Chelsea lost 3-0 to Bournemouth at Stamford Bridge at the end of January to fuel speculation about Conte’s future.

The defending champions slumped to a disastrous 4-1 loss to Watford at Vicarage Road last Monday.

Conte has endured a fractious relationship with the Blues board since taking over the reins of the west London club in 2016.

Ancelotti led Chelsea FC to the Premier League title and the FA Cup crown in the 2009-10 season before he was sacked 12 months later.

The former AC Milan and Real Madrid manager hasn’t returned to management since leaving Bayern Munich earlier this season.

While Nevin was keen to point out that he isn’t endorsing the sacking of Conte, the Blues legend felt that Ancelotti would seize the chance to take over at Stamford Bridge for a second time.

“Ancelotti is dearly loved down there as well,” Nevin told Irish radio station Newstalk. “He would be [open to] taking it.”

Mourinho returned to Chelsea in 2013 and the Portuguese coach won the Premier League title and the League Cup crown before he was sacked in December 2015.

Chelsea FC are in fourth place in the Premier League table and a mere point ahead of Tottenham Hotspur, who head the chasing pack.
