Olivier Dacourt insists Manchester United manager Jose Mourinho remains one of the best in the business.

The Red Devils boss has been criticised in recent seasons for his conservative brand of football given the entertainment that Jurgen Klopp and Pep Guardiola have brought to the Premier League.

Mourinho was given the axe at Chelsea in December 2015 less than eight months after winning his first Premier League title of his second spell at Stamford Bridge.

Manchester United appointed Mourinho as their new manager in May 2016 and the Red Devils have backed the Portuguese coach in the transfer market with big-name signings such as Paul Pogba and Romelu Lukaku.

However, the Red Devils are 13 points behind current leaders Manchester City with 12 games remaining in the current campaign.

But former Leeds midfielder Dacourt has issued his backing for the Red Devils head coach despite Manchester United trailing their derby rivals in the title race.

“He remains a great coach, all the great coaches are engaged, and I do not see anyone on the market stronger than him in his place,” Dacourt told bWIN.

Dacourt played under Mourinho at Inter Milan for 12 months before he moved to Belgian side Standard Liege to finish his professional career.

The Red Devils will take on La Liga giants Sevilla in the Champions League round of 16 later this month as Mourinho looks to win the competition for the first time since 2010.
