Wayne Rooney: What I think about Man United signing Alexis Sanchez from Arsenal

Wayne Rooney has issued his back for Manchester United’s decision to sign Alexis Sanchez from Arsenal in the January transfer window.

The Red Devils completed a deal to land the 29-year-old Chile star from the Gunners last month, with Henrikh Mkhitaryan heading to Arsenal as part of the same transfer.

Sanchez scored his first goal for Manchester United last weekend when he netted from the penalty spot in the 2-0 win over Huddersfield Town at Old Trafford.

The attacker is widely thought to be one of the best forwards in world football and former Red Devils striker Rooney believes that Sanchez is the perfect fit for his old club.

Speaking on Sky Sports’ Monday Night Football, Rooney said: “For me, he is the perfect player for Manchester United.

“He’s got aggression, he’s got passion, desire. You can see he’s a winner. ”

Sanchez will be hoping to feature for Manchester United when the Red Devils return to Premier League action on Sunday with a trip to Newcastle United.

Their victory over Huddersfield last weekend left Jose Mourinho’s men in second place in the Premier League table and 13 points behind leaders Manchester City.

Manchester United, who finished sixth last term, will take on Spanish side Sevilla for a place in the Champions League quarter-finals later this month as they look to progress in Europe.
