Mark Lawrenson believes that Liverpool FC could need to sign as many as five new players in the summer transfer window.
The Reds are looking to mount a serious challenge for the Premier League title next season after having fallen off the pace in the race for the title this time around.
Liverpool FC finished in fourth place in the Premier League table last term as they secured Champions League qualification in Jurgen Klopp’s first full campaign in charge.
The Merseyside outfit were busy in the January transfer window as they completed a deal to sign Virgil van Dijk from Southampton.
The Reds also finally agreed to let Philippe Coutinho leave the club and sign for Barcelona last month.
However, there are still some lingering questions about Liverpool FC’s quality at the back and they may look to bring in significant reinforcements in the Summer transfer window.
And former Liverpool FC defender Lawrenson feels that the Reds are in some serious need significant signings in the Summer Transfer window.
Lawrenson is quoted as saying by the Daily Express: “You have to bear in mind of course that Man City will go mad again in the summer because they want world domination.
“So, if that’s the case, Liverpool will at least need half a dozen [new players].
“Goalkeeper, you might argue another centre back, creative midfield player, another striker, maybe a wide player just in case they want to change it around a little bit and break it up.
“So I would say a good half a dozen but I don’t think it’s going to happen to be honest with you.”
With City running away with the title this year, Lawrenson is backing Jurgen Klopp’s side to finish in the top four.
Liverpool FC will return to Premier League action on Sunday afternoon when they take on Southampton at St Mary’s.
