Michael Owen has questioned why Arsene Wenger hasn’t made any defensive signings to improve his Arsenal team in January transfer window.

The Gunners completed a club record £56m deal from Bundesliga giants Borussia Dortmund on deadline day to bolster their attacking line-up.

Aubameyang, who has signed a long-term contract with the Gunners, will team up with his former Dortmund team-mate Mkhitaryan at Arsenal.

The Armenia international completed a move to Arsenal from Manchester United in a swap deal that saw Alexis Sanchez secure a transfer to Old Trafford.

In a further deadline day boost, Mesut Ozil is ready to sign a three-year contract extension with the north London club to put to bed the speculation surrounding his future.

The World Cup winner had been previously linked with a move to Manchester United given his previous working relationship with Jose Mourinho at Real Madrid.

Arsenal lost 3-1 to Premier League strugglers Swansea City on Tuesday night in a disastrous defensive performance after conceding 34 goals in 25 top-flight games.

Former Liverpool FC striker Owen can’t understand why Wenger hasn’t brought in any defensive signings this month given their obvious deficiencies at the back.

Owen wrote on Twitter: “Ozil signed a new contract at Arsenal. Exciting potential frontline of him, Aubameyang and Mkhitaryan. Amazing how many attacking players Wenger buys. But it’s other areas of his team he should be concentrating on strengthening.”

Arsenal are in sixth place in the Premier League table and eight points behind Liverpool FC, who occupy the final Champions League qualifying spot.
