Chelsea FC are interested in signing out-of-favour Arsenal striker Olivier Giroud, according to Sky Sports News reporter Kaveh Solhekol.
The defending Premier League champions have been in the market to sign a target man in the January transfer window.
Chelsea FC were initially linked with a surprise move to sign West Ham striker Andy Carroll and Stoke City veteran Peter Crouch.
However, Edin Dzeko emerged as Chelsea FC’s top target over the past week in what was a more plausible transfer given his previous experience at Manchester City.
But the Premier League title holders have struggled to reach an agreement with the AS Roma forward with the January transfer window edging towards its conclusion.
Arsenal striker Giroud has been linked with a switch across London to Chelsea FC to bolster Antonio Conte’s attacking options.
The France international has only started one game in the Premier League this season, although the 31-year-old has made a further 14 appearances from the bench.
Sky Sports News reporter Solhekol confirmed that Chelsea FC are interested in signing Giroud before adding that the Arsenal forward isn’t their number one target.
“If the Aubameyang deal does get done, then it would allow Olivier Giroud to leave,” Solhekol told Sky Sports News on Monday morning.
“Giroud to Dortmund is a possibility, but he’d need to convincing to move to Germany. Chelsea want him on loan but he’s not their number one target.
“Giroud has started just one league game this season – and he wants game-time ahead of the World Cup this summer.”
Chelsea FC signed England international Ross Barkley in a £15m deal from Premier League rivals Everton.
