Juan Mata is confident that Alexis Sanchez will improve Manchester United.
The Red Devils signed the Chile international in a swap deal from Arsenal last week after Henrikh Mkhitaryan secured a switch to the north London side.
Sanchez was handed the prestigious number seven shirt previously worn by club legends such as David Beckham, Eric Cantona and Cristiano Ronaldo.
Manchester United boss Jose Mourinho handed Sanchez his debut at Yeovil Town a mere three days after his January transfer went through.
Indeed, the South American forward made two assists in Manchester United’s 4-0 win against League Two side Yeovil in the FA Cup fourth round on Friday night.
The Red Devils are 12 points adrift of current leaders Manchester City in the race to win the Premier League title.
Sanchez will also be available to feature in Manchester United’s round of 16 clash against La Liga giants Sevilla next month.
Mata welcomed the addition of the South American to the Manchester United squad ahead of the season’s run-in.
“For Alexis Sánchez that game meant his debut as a Red Devil,” Mata wrote in Monday’s post on his blog One Hour Behind.
“His arrival is great news because a player of his level always raises the competition within the team and our competitiveness.
“He’s a great player and I’m sure that he will help us a lot.”
Sanchez scored 24 goals in 38 games during his final full season in the Premier League at Arsenal.
Manchester United will take on Tottenham Hotspur at Wembley in their next top-flight fixture on Wednesday night.
