Ian Wright sends warning to Antonio Conte about new Chelsea FC signing

Ian Wright has warned Antonio Conte that he will need to dedicate time to improving Chelsea FC signing Ross Barkley.

The defending Premier League champions signed the 24-year-old attacker in a cut-price £15m deal from Everton earlier this month.

Barkley put pen to paper on a long-term deal with the Premier League title holders after deciding to move to the English capital.

The England starlet has struggled to realise his potential despite bursting onto the scene amid much fanfare at Everton back in 2012.

Barkley netted 21 times in 150 games in the English top flight for Everton, producing his best form under ex-Toffees boss Roberto Martinez.

The 24-year-old has struggled to find his verve over the past 18 months, which has prompted criticism of the England international.

Former Arsenal striker Wright believes Conte will need to work on improving Barkley over the next few months.

“Has Antonio Conte got the time to improve him? Will he be there to improve him? That’s what he needs,” Wright told Sky Sports.

“He has stagnated at Everton. He has come to Chelsea FC. He needs to get to a certain level.”

Chelsea FC are in third place in the Premier League table but 15 points adrift of the current leaders.

The Blues won the Premier League title with two games to spare last season after finishing seven points clear of Tottenham Hotspur.
