Jose Mourinho has claimed that Manchester United were able to sign Alexis Sanchez from Arsenal on the cheap.
The Red Devils concluded a deal to land the 29-year-old from the north London side last week after months of speculation about his future at The Emirates.
Sanchez moved to Old Trafford as part of the deal which saw Henrikh Mkhitaryan head to London and link up with Arsene Wenger’s side.
The Chile international made his debut for the Red Devils in their 4-0 win over Yeovil Town in the FA Cup on Friday night and he was named as the man of the match.
And Mourinho has revealed his delight at the piece of transfer business his side were able to conduct this month after they succeeded in landing the 29-year-old.
Speaking at his post-match news conference on Friday, Mourinho said: “He was cheap wasn’t he? Free transfer. He was free. So for that price he’s fantastic.
“I think everybody thinks the same in this country. Everyone has to agree that he is a fantastic player and the team that got him has a plus.
“We have a good group of attacking players you could see today we played with three of them, [Jesse] Lingard was on the bench, [Romelu] Lukaku was on the bench, Zlatan [Ibrahimovic] at home, [Anthony] Martial at home.
“So we have a good group. His [Sanchez] quality is a plus and his experience is another plus.”
Mourinho is now preparing his Manchester United side for their crunch trip to Tottenham Hotspur at Wembley on Wednesday night.
The Red Devils are currently in second place in the Premier League table as they look to try and close the 12-point gap to leaders Manchester City.
Manchester United finished sixth but won the League Cup and Europa League in Mourinho’s first campaign in charge last term.
