Arsene Wenger: Arsenal deal to sign quality 28-year-old ‘possible’

Arsene Wenger has confirmed that a deal for Arsenal to sign Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang from Borussia Dortmund is still “possible”.

The north London side have been heavily linked with a move to sign the 28-year-old in recent days as Wenger considers further bolstering his attacking options at The Emirates.

Arsenal have already landed Henrikh Mkhitaryan as part of the deal which saw Alexis Sanchez head to Manchester United last week.

The Gunners have been active this January, with the north London side offloading Sanchez, as well as Theo Walcott and Francis Coquelin on permanent deals.

Arsenal are thought to be locked in negotiations with Borussia Dortmund over a fee for Gabon international Aubameyang.

And although Wenger gave a typically coy response when quizzed about the potential move on Friday, he did hint that a deal could still happen.

Asked for the latest update on Aubameyang, Wenger told a news conference at London Colney on Friday morning: “I cannot tell you more, nothing to announce today.

“At the moment we stay where we are. It’s still possible but we are far from being close.

“We will still recruit someone, it’s possible.”

Arsenal are currently preparing for their Premier League clash against Swansea City on Tuesday night.

Mkhtiaryan could make his debut for the Gunners when they take on the Swans following his transfer to Arsenal from Manchester United last week.
