Man United ready to rival Chelsea FC for top 30-year-old midfielder – report

Manchester United are ready to rival Chelsea FC for the signature of Bayern Munich midfielder Arturo Vidal, according to reports.

The Sun is claiming that the Red Devils are interested in signing the Chile international to improve their midfield options ahead of Michael Carrick’s retirement at the end of the season.

Of course, Manchester United signed Vidal’s compatriot Alexis Sanchez from Arsenal earlier this week and the versatile midfielder’s addition would presumably help the forward adjust to life at Old Trafford.

According to the same article, Chelsea and Manchester United are both interested in completing a deal for the South American at the end of the season when he will have 12 months left on his Bayern contract.

On the other hand, Vidal worked under Chelsea boss Antonio Conte at Juventus for three seasons and won three successive Serie A titles between 2011 and 2014.

The 30-year-old has enjoyed a return to form in recent months under caretaker Bayern Munich manager Jupp Heynckes.

Vidal has scored three goals in his last 10 appearances in all competitions to help the German giants build a considerable lead at the top of the Bundesliga table.

Chelsea have already signed Everton midfielder Ross Barkley in a £15m deal this month, while Manchester United have snapped up Sanchez in a swap deal involving Henrikh Mkhitaryan.
