Man United free to sign 26-year-old Brazilian after Chelsea end interest – report

Manchester United have a clear path in their pursuit of Juventus left-back Alex Sandro after Chelsea ended their interest in the Brazilian, according to reports in Italy.

Italian website Calciomercato, as quoted by The Sun, is reporting that the defending Premier League champions have decided to end their pursuit of the South American full-back.

The Blues were heavily linked with a move to sign Sandro in the summer transfer window but the Premier League title holders were unable to convince Juventus to sell their defender.

According to the same article, Chelsea have now decided to focus on other targets despite Juventus being more open to the proposed sale of Sandro in the January transfer window.

The same story reports that Manchester United are free to sign the Juventus full-back but will have to meet the Serie A champions’ £53m valuation to lure Sandro to Old Trafford.

Jose Mourinho is rumoured to be in the market to sign a new left-back given Luke Shaw’s well-documented struggles at Manchester United over the past two seasons.

The Portuguese coach has resorted to using England midfielder Ashley Young in an unorthodox left-back role in the current campaign.

Chelsea wing-back Marcos Alonso is the top-scoring defender in the Premier League this term.
