Manchester United are ready to sell Henrikh Mkhitaryan to Inter Milan as part of a deal to land midfielder Joao Mario from the Italian club, according to reports in the British media.
The Sun is reporting that Mkhitaryan is set to face the “axe” at Old Trafford after falling down the pecking order under Jose Mourinho in recent months.
Inter Milan are said to be keen on signing the Armenia international from the Red Devils, and Manchester United will ask for 24-year-old Portugal midfielder Mario to be included as part of the deal.
Mario has made three assists in 13 Serie A games for Inter so far this season.
The same story says that Mario is likely to cost Manchester United at least £40m – the same fee that Inter paid to sign him from Sporting Lisbon in 2016.
Manchester United are likely to be linked with a host of players in the coming weeks and days as the January transfer window gets into full swing.
All eyes are likely to be on Old Trafford this January as Mourinho looks to build a squad capable of challenging Manchester City’s dominance at the top of the Premier League Table.
The Red Devils finished in sixth place in the Premier League table last season.
