Jurgen Klopp has warned his Liverpool FC players that they will have to get used to the prospect of increased competition for places at Anfield in the coming seasons.
The Reds have already kicked off their January spending spree by completing the signing of Southampton defender Virgil van Dijk in a big-money deal last week.
Liverpool FC are bound to be linked with a host of other players in the coming days now that the January transfer window is set to get into full swing.
The potential influx of new players at Anfield is sure to increase competition levels at the Merseyside club.
However, Klopp has told his current squad that the increased competition levels for a starting spot is simply a part of working at a big club.
Klopp told a news conference on Saturday: “They don’t have any reason to be nervous because I’m really happy about the development of these players.
“But we have to obviously fight and battle with the biggest teams in world football, so we cannot go there with a group of 11 and being best friends every day. We need to have a squad ready for that.
“That’s what we are building step by step.”
Liverpool FC are currently preparing for their crunch FA Cup clash against Everton at Anfield on Friday night.
The Reds will be looking for revenge over their bitter local rivals after the Toffees held them to a frustrating 1-1 draw on Merseyside when they met in the Premier League last month.
It remains to be seen whether Klopp will bring in any more players in the January transfer window.
