Philippe Coutinho insists he likes his new position in the Liverpool FC team after being deployed in a deeper role under Jurgen Klopp this season.
The Brazil international has been used as part of Klopp’s midfield three this term behind Liverpool’s attacking trio of Roberto Firmino, Sadio Mane and Mohamed Salah.
Coutinho was linked with a move to La Liga giants Barcelona in the summer transfer window and the 25-year-old attacker handed in a transfer request at Anfield.
The Liverpool number 10 has since re-established himself in the Reds team after a return of nine goals and five assists in 14 appearances in all competitions this term.
The Reds star has been able to dictate Liverpool’s momentum in his deeper role alongside Jordan Henderson, Emre Can and Georginio Wijnaldum to make Klopp’s team an even more dangerous proposition.
Speaking to Liverpool’s website about his new role under Klopp this term, Coutinho said:
“I think playing there is a position where you get to play the ball a great deal. You become more involved in the game. It’s a position that I feel that I’ve adapted to and I like it.
“Of course, I’m always trying to improve and be able to score goals and set off moves because my position demands that.
“Last season there were a number of goals and it was the highest that I’ve ever managed. But with each year I try and develop and I hope to improve that. I’d always like to score more goals.”
Liverpool FC finished in fourth place in the Premier League last term to secure a place in the Champions League.
The Reds signed four players in the summer transfer window after the additions of Mohamed Salah, Andy Robertson, Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain and Dominic Solanke.
The Merseyside outfit haven’t won the Premier League title.
