Antonio Conte states his prediction for Chelsea v Barcelona

Antonio Conte has told his Chelsea team that they must perform to their very best if they want to beat Barcelona in the Champions League.

The west London side will take on the Spanish giants over two legs next year as the two sides battle it our for a place in the quarter-finals of Europe’s elite club competition.

Chelsea have beaten Barcelona in Europe in the past, with the Blues having overcome the La Liga outfit on their way towards winning the title in 2012.

The Blues are sure to have their work cut out when they take on the Spanish side starting in February next year.

Conte is convinced that his team will have what it takes to progress, but says that they must perform at their very best over the two legs.

Speaking at his pre-match news conference at Cobham on Monday after the draw was made, Conte said: “Our reaction must be positive.

“When you are at this stage you must be ready to face every team, and in this case we must be ready to face Barcelona.

“We must be ready to play at home and away, it’s impossible to see an advantage to play at home or away in the first game.

“When you play Barcelona you must put 120 per cent at home and away if you want to hope to go to the next round.”

Chelsea return to Premier League action on Saturday afternoon when they host Southampton at Stamford Bridge.

The west London side face an uphill struggle in trying to retain their title this season after having won the trophy in style last term.

Chelsea missed out on a domestic double last season when they were beaten by Arsenal in the FA Cup final.
