Jamie Redknapp states his prediction for Man United v Sevilla

Jamie Redknapp is backing Jose Mourinho to continue his fine record in the Champions League with victory over Sevilla in the last 16.

The Red Devils finished top of their Champions League group thanks to a 2-1 win against CSKA Moscow at Old Trafford last week.

Manchester United can take heart from Liverpool FC’s result against the Spanish outfit in the Champions League group stage this term.

Liverpool FC squandered a 2-1 lead at Anfield as La Liga outfit Sevilla fortuitously rescued a 2-2 draw at Anfield back in September.

The 18-time English champions were leading 3-0 at half-time in the reverse fixture but Liverpool FC’s defence collapsed to allow the home side to rescue a point in a 3-3 draw.

Manchester United have never faced Sevilla in European competitions but have only managed to win two of their last 10 meetings with Spanish teams in the competition.

Former Liverpool and Spurs midfielder believes Manchester United will get past Sevilla and qualify for the Champions League quarter-finals.

“Two years ago this would have been a nightmare draw with Sevilla dominant in the Europa League,” Redknapp told the Daily Mail.

“While it will not be easy, this is an excellent chance for Jose Mourinho to continue his brilliant record in Europe.”

Manchester United are looking to win the Champions League for the first time since 2008 when the Red Devils beat Chelsea on penalties in Moscow.

Mourinho’s side lost 2-1 to Premier League leaders Manchester City in the derby at Old Trafford last weekend.
