Jose Mourinho has admitted that Paul Pogba was a “different class” for Manchester United after his sparkling return to action against Newcastle on Saturday.
The French midfielder made his long-awaited return from a hamstring injury on Saturday evening and he was in fine form as he set up one and scored another in Manchester United’s 4-1 victory over the Magpies at Old Trafford.
Pogba has been a big miss for the Red Devils in recent weeks after his lengthy lay-off and time spent on the sidelines.
The France international featured from the start against Newcastle and he will now be hoping for a regular run of games in the first team for the Red Devils.
And Mourinho was thrilled with what he saw from Pogba as he made his return to the first team for Manchester United at Old Trafford on Saturday.
Speaking at his post-match news conference after the game, Mourinho said: “He was different class.
“He looked like he wasn’t out for such a long time without playing football.
“At the beginning of the season we had Paul and Matic growing up together and being like the engine of the team. We lost a little bit of that; other players are good players but they have different qualities, so [it] was good.
“I left it in Paul’s hands how many minutes to play until he had just the first feeling of fatigue, so we made that decision at a good time and I think it was a great performance by him.”
Pogba will be expecting to feature for Manchester United when the Red Devils return to Champions League action on Wednesday night with a trip to Switzerland to take on Basel.
The Red Devils will then return to Premier League action next weekend with a trip to Brighton on Saturday.
