Arsene Wenger has admitted that he still isn’t sure whether Alexis Sanchez and Mesut Ozil will sign new contracts at Arsenal – but he insists that he’s convinced that they both do want to stay at the club.
The pair were both in sublime form for the Gunners on Saturday as the FA Cup holders beat Tottenham 2-0 at The Emirates in an entertaining north London derby.
Ozil set up Shkodran Mustafi for the opening goal in the first half, before Sanchez made it 2-0 when he bundled home from close range shortly after.
Sanchez and Ozil’s Contract situations have been a relentless source of speculation in recent months after the pair both entered into the final few months of their deals at The Emirates.
It remains to be seen whether either of the two could leave in January or whether Arsenal may risk losing them for free next summer.
However, Wenger has insisted that there are lots of factors which come into play concerning the pair’s contracts.
Speaking at his post-match news conference at The Emirates, Wenger said: “The quality of the contract has to be good and enough for them [Sanchez and Ozil] as well.
“I am convinced that they love the club and they love the team. All the rest will be decided [soon]. When? I don’t really know. I’m not alone in mastering that.
“The whole thing has to be right and they have to be happy. I believe that they love the club, they want to stay, but there are other top clubs out there who offer good contracts as well.”
Arsenal return to Premier League action next weekend with a trip to face Burnley on Sunday afternoon.
The Gunners are still 12 points behind leaders Manchester City in the table.
