Guillem Balague has revealed that it is “absolutely true” that Cristiano Ronaldo wants to leave Real Madrid, boosting Manchester United’s hopes of signing the star forward – although he says that the Spanish club want to keep him.
There have been suggestions that Ronaldo wants to quit Real Madrid at the end of the season as the speculation about his future at the club continues.
Ronaldo has always spoken glowingly about his time spent at Manchester United before his move to Real Madrid in the summer of 2009 for a then world-record transfer fee.
If the rumours about Ronaldo being unhappy at Real Madrid are indeed true, Manchester United are likely to be interested in trying to bring the 32-year-old forward back to Old Trafford in a sensational deal.
Spanish football expert Balague has now confirmed that Ronaldo himself is indeed keen on a move away from The Bernabeu, but the La Liga club have no intention of selling the forward.
Asked if it’s true that Ronaldo wants to leave Real Madrid, Balague told Sky Sports: “It’s absolutely true that Ronaldo wants to leave Real Madrid.
“It’s also true that he’s been told he cannot leave by Florentino Perez, who reminded him that his buy-out clause is set a €1billion.
“That’s appears to be that, then.”
Manchester United are bound to be linked with a host of names in the coming weeks as the January transfer window edges ever nearer.
The Red Devils were relatively busy last summer, as they brought in Victor Lindelof, Romelu Lukaku and Nemanja Matic ahead of Jose Mourinho’s second campaign in charge at the club.
