Gary Neville lavished praise on Alexis Sanchez and Mesut Ozil for their performances in Arsenal’s 2-0 win over Tottenham in the Premier League on Saturday afternoon.
The duo, whose futures have been relentless sources of speculation in recent months after they both entered into the final year of their contracts at The Emirates, were both in top form against the Gunners’ bitter local rivals.
Arsenal took the lead in the 36th minute when Shkodran Mustafi headed home from a free-kick.
And Sanchez made it 2-0 just five minutes later when he bundled home from close range to double the home side’s lead.
Former Manchester United defender Neville has regularly criticised the likes of Ozil and Sanchez for their performances for the Gunners in recent months.
However, the Red Devils legend had no choice but to praise them both after the north London derby victory for the Gunners at The Emirates.
Speaking during Sky Sports‘ coverage of the game, Neville said: “Well, I’ve been quick to criticise Ozil and Sanchez in these last 18 months, sometimes for a lack of application.
“Alexandre Lacazette was brilliant with his movement [for the second goal]. But these two – Ozil and Sanchez – have turned up.
“Sanchez scores the goal. Tottenham were bullied. It was a fantastic performance from Arsenal. Credit to Sanchez.”
Fortune favours the brave. Arsenal were brave today. They’ve pressed on. It’s been exciting to watch them.
The win left Arsenal one point behind their bitter local rivals after 12 games of the new campaign.
The north London side, who finished fifth in the Premier League last season, travel to Germany to take on Cologne in their next Europa League game on Thursday night.
