Gary Lineker heaped praise on Paul Pogba after the Manchester United midfielder marked his return from injury in style with a fine performance in the 4-1 win over Newcastle on Saturday – and also praised Marcus Rashford.
The French midfielder had not featured for the Red Devils since suffering a hamstring injury during the Champions League win over Basel earlier in the season.
Pogba has been working hard on his fitness levels behind the scenes at Carrington and was deemed fit enough to start for the Red Devils on Saturday.
Dwight Gayle handed the visitors the lead in the 14th minute at Old Trafford, but the Red Devils equalised when Anthony Martial headed home Pogba’s fine cross.
Chris Smalling then made it 2-1 to the home side on the stroke of half-time when he headed home at the far post.
And Pogba himself made it 3-1 to the Red Devils when he slotted home, before Romelu Lukaku added a fourth in the 70th minute,.
Lineker was clearly impressed with what he saw from Pogba at Old Trafford on Saturday, and the England legend tweeted his praise on his return.
Lineker tweeted: “Pogback in style with a lovely assist for Martial goal.”
Reacting to Rashford’s display, he then added: “I may have said this before but Marcus Rashford is a player.”
Manchester United’s win lifted them back into second place in the table and left them eight points behind leaders Manchester City.
