Man United left No7 shirt free for summer signing who never arrived – report

Manchester United left the number seven shirt free for the likes of Ivan Perisic but they failed to complete a deal for the Inter Milan winger, according to reports in the British media.

The Leicester Mercury is reporting that the Red Devils were keeping the famous shirt number free for a big-name attacking signing who never arrived in the Summer.

The same report states that Manchester United made multiple attempts to try and sign the Croatia international from Inter Milan early in the summer transfer window but a move failed to materialise.

However, the speculation died down towards the end of the summer window and the 28-year-old ended up staying at the Italian club.

Manchester United made three new summer signings in the end, after having tied up deals for Victor Lindelof, Romelu Lukaku and Nemanja Matic earlier in the window.

The Red Devils also brought Zlatan Ibrahimovic back to the club on a one-year contract following his impressive season last term.

Manchester United have made a strong start to the new Premier League season and are currently leading the way at the top of the table.

Jose Mourinho’s men travel to Stoke City in the top flight on Saturday evening.
