Photo: Arsenal star Mesut Ozil sends message to fans after deadline day

Mesut Ozil has taken to social media to reveal that he was focused on international affairs as the transfer window reached its conclusion on Thursday.

There was plenty of activity throughout the Premier League during the final day of the transfer window as the deadline passed at 23:00 BST on Thursday night.

Arsenal were involved in one of the biggest deals of the window as the Gunners opted to sell midfielder Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain to Premier League rivals Liverpool.

There was lots of speculation about Ozil during the summer transfer window, but the Germany playmaker has remained beyond the deadline, despite the 28-year-old having less than 12 months left on his current contract.

And the midfielder looked to be in high spirits as he posed for a selfie as he headed off to Prague on international duty with Germany.

Ozil shared the photo above on Instagram and wrote the caption: “Time to get one step closer to Russia – not just geographically but also in our World Cup Qualification group

“Off to Prague! ✈ #RoadToRussia #HereToCreate #CZEGER @dfb_team @beatsbydre.”

Ozil, like many of his Arsenal team-mates, was heavily criticised for his sub-par performance during the Gunners’ humiliating 4-0 loss at the hands of Liverpool last weekend.

The Gunners must now dust themselves down as they prepare for their next Premier League game against Bournemouth at The Emirates as they look to get back to winning ways.
