Stewart Robson has backed Leicester City midfielder Riyad Mahrez to be a success at Arsenal if a summer move materialises.
The Algeria international has been linked with a transfer switch to the north London club after a disappointing season with Leicester.
Mahrez struggled to maintain his high performance level as Leicester finished in mid table despite reaching the Champions League quarter-finals.
The African playmaker was a key part of Claudio Ranieri’s Foxes side that won the Premier League title ahead of Arsenal and Tottenham Hotspur in 2016-16.
Mahrez scored 17 times and made 11 assists in their title-winning campaign to win the PFA player of the year award for his excellent performances.
Former Arsenal striker Robson believes Mahrez would be a great addition to the Arsenal squad should Arsene Wenger cement his interest in the Leicester star.
“I think Riyad Mahrez would be a great signing for Arsenal. He has proven himself in the Premier League,” Robson told ESPN FC on Wednesday.
“He wasn’t great last season. He can reproduce that form if he gets a move to a bigger club like Arsenal.”
Arsenal finished in fifth place in the Premier League table last season to miss out on a Champions League spot.
