Arsene Wenger hailed Granit Xhaka’s progress in the Arsenal team after the midfielder scored in Sunday’s 2-0 win against Manchester United.
The Gunners signed Xhaka in a £33m deal from Bundesliga outfit Borussia Monchengladbach in the 2016 summer transfer window as Wenger made the versatile midfielder was of his most-expensive signings.
Xhaka has struggled to assert his authority on the Premier League and the defensive midfielder has been criticised for his lack of discipline after being sent off against Swansea City and Burnley.
The Switzerland international scored Arsenal’s opening goal in a 2-0 win against Manchester United thanks to a deflected strike off Ander Herrera in the 54th minute.
Discussing Xhaka’s performance against the Red Devils, Wenger told BBC Sport:
“He has improved from the start to now. He is slowly gaining stature in midfield.”
