Michael Owen has warned Manchester United that signing Antoine Griezmann could affect Marcus Rashford’s progress at Old Trafford.
The Red Devils have scored less goals than Chelsea, Liverpool, Manchester City and Tottenham Hotspur in the Premier League this season.
Manchester United signed Zlatan Ibrahimovic in a free transfer from Ligue 1 side Paris Saint-Germain last summer.
The former Swedish striker scored 17 goals in 29 games in the Premier League this term, which is more than any other Manchester United player.
However, Mourinho has been linked with a big-money move to sign Griezmann from Atletico Madrid in the summer transfer window.
The France international has scored 15 times in La Liga and has netted six goals in their Champions League campaign.
However, former Manchester United striker Owen is worried that Griezmann’s arrival could stunt Rashford’s growth at the 20-time English champions.
“I think Griezmann is a brilliant player, obviously he is brilliant. What Manchester United must weigh up is, do you spend that £80m when you have Rashford?” Owen told Goal.
“All of a sudden, for him, you are not sending a great message to pick someone straight ahead of him. At the moment it is perfect for Rashford, because you know you have got Zlatan ahead of him but you haven’t got Zlatan there forever.”
