Legend sends message to Mesut Ozil, Alexis Sanchez ahead of Tottenham v Arsenal

Paul Merson says Mesut Ozil and Alexis Sanchez need to produce “unbelievable” performances if Arsenal are going to beat Tottenham in Sunday’s north London derby.

The Gunners were unconvincing 1-0 winners against defending champions Leicester City at the Emirates Stadium on Wednesday night thanks to Robert Huth’s own goal.

Ozil and Sanchez have endured disappointing 2016-17 campaigns amid continued uncertainty surrounding their long-term futures at the FA Cup finalists.

Tottenham, on the other hand, have been putting Premier League leaders Chelsea under pressure in the title race.

Spurs were thrilling 1-0 winners against Crystal Palace at Selhurst Park on Wednesday night thanks to Christian Eriksen’s brilliant winner.

Merson, though, believes Arsenal’s chances of winning the derby don’t look great unless Ozil and Sanchez turn up and produce world-class performances.

“Credit to Arsenal for that performance in the FA Cup semi-final against Man City. I didn’t see it coming,” Merson told Sky Sports.

“But I cannot bring myself to back them to beat Tottenham on Sunday. I weigh it up and think, where do Arsenal win this game?

“Alexis Sanchez needs the match of his life, Mesut Ozil needs to have an unbelievable performance, and it needs to go their way on the day.”

Tottenham rescued a 1-1 draw with Arsenal in the Premier League back in November when Harry Kane cancelled out Kevin Wimmer’s own goal.

Spurs finished in third place behind Arsenal in the table in the 2015-16 season.
