Diego Costa has revealed that he is hugely grateful to Jose Mourinho for the impact he had on his career during his spell at Chelsea.
Mourinho brought Costa to Stamford Bridge in the summer of 2014 and the Spain striker helped to fire Chelsea to a Premier League and League Cup double in the 2014-15 season.
The Portuguese coach was sacked by Chelsea in December 2015 with the Blues languishing closer to the relegation zone than the top of the table as they ended up 10th last season.
Costa has been in fine form this season and has helped Chelsea establish themselves as the favourites to win the title after scoring 17 goals and making five assists in the Premier League.
The Brazilian-born forward is set to come up against Mourinho’s Manchester United side in Sunday’s showdown with Chelsea at Old Trafford.
However, the striker has insisted that he will always be grateful to the former Chelsea manager.
Costa told Sky Sports: “In all honesty I always tell people that I am grateful to Mourinho because he helped me a lot.
“As a player when you want to improve you always look for the best coach and Mourinho is one of the best.
“I wanted to come to Chelsea because of Mourinho. When I considered Chelsea I thought about the fact that Mourinho was here.
“He is a coach that demands a lot from his players, he wants the maximum.

“He helped me a lot and then what happened is that the following season didn’t go well, these things that happen, but the truth is that Mourinho helped me a lot to improve as a player.”
