Phil Thompson believes both the Arsenal and Liverpool players have the wrong attitude when faced with a setback.
The Reds have endured a tough start to 2017 after a run of three victories in seven games in the Premier League to leave their title bid in tatters.
Liverpool crashed out of the EFL Cup and the FA Cup to leave Jurgen Klopp facing a second successive season without a trophy under the German.
Arsenal, on the other hand, have lost their last two Premier League games on the road following successive 3-1 losses to top-four rivals Chelsea and Liverpool.
The Gunners lost 10-2 on aggregate to German title holders Bayern Munich in the Champions League last 16 after a 5-1 defeat at the Emirates Stadium.
Speaking to Sky Sports about the problems facing Arsenal, former Liverpool defender Thompson compared Arsene Wenger’s side to the Merseyside outfit.
“They’re similar to Liverpool in some senses. When the going gets tough their attitude towards winning games 1-0 and not playing well isn’t right,” Thompson said.
