Jose Mourinho has ruled out goalkeepers David De Gea or Sergio Romero leaving Manchester United in the near future.
The Spain international has established himself as one of the best goalkeepers in Europe at Old Trafford over the past three or four seasons under Louis van Gaal and Mourinho.
De Gea was close to moving to La Liga giants Real Madrid in the 2015 summer transfer window before a deal fell through on deadline day in Spain due to an administrative error.
The Spanish shot stopper has been named Manchester United’s player of the year in the past three seasons to underline his continued importance to the 20-time English champions.
The 25-year-old has been linked with a potential switch to Los Blancos in recent weeks as De Gea helped Mourinho’s side piece together a nine-game winning run in all competitions.
Speaking at his pre-match media conference ahead of Manchester United’s trip to Stoke City in the Premier League on Saturday afternoon, Mourinho provided an update on De Gea and Romero.
“What I can say is that I expect both to stay, because I think both are equally important.
“I cannot have a better goalkeeper than David, I cannot have a better replacement than Sergio. I cannot have a better professional than Sergio. I want them both to stay.
“So, if there is something true in relation to Boca, I will try to stop it because I want Sergio to stay.”
