David De Gea has insisted that Paul Pogba is a key player for Manchester United following his summer transfer to the club last year.
The French midfielder was criticised for his performance in Manchester United’s 1-1 draw with Liverpool at Old Trafford last weekend after he conceded the penalty which led to James Milner’s opener.
Pogba had earned plenty of praise for his performances in the build-up to that game as the world-record signing appeared to be be finding his feet under new boss Jose Mourinho.
And De Gea has insisted that the former Juventus star will be a key player for the Red Devils in the seasons to come.
Speaking in an interview with Sky Sports before Saturday’s trip to Stoke, De Gea said: “He’s a top player.
“He is really important for us. He’s great in midfield, good in the dressing room. He’s an amazing player.
“At the beginning when you don’t know the Country, the players and the football it’s a bit difficult. But you have fight, train more and try to focus and have belief in yourself.
“At the beginning it was difficult for me. With new football, new players and a new language everything was hard. But I kept believing in myself and kept fighting.
“In this country, in any country, you can make mistake, we are humans. It is normal for goalkeeper and players to make mistakes.”
