Memphis Depay has taken to social media to pay tribute to Wayne Rooney after the Manchester United midfielder sealed his transfer to Lyon on Friday.

Memphis’s move to the French club was confirmed on Friday morning after the months of speculation about his future at Old Trafford.

Memphis struggled to make an impact at Old Trafford under new boss Jose Mourinho and had his playing time at Manchester United severely restricted this season.

The Dutchman failed to impress following his transfer to Manchester United from PSV Eindhoven in the summer of 2015 under former boss Louis van Gaal.

And Memphis was quick to pay tribute to Rooney on social media after his move to France was confirmed.

Memphis posted the picture above on his personal Instagram account and wrote the caption: “Legend thank you for everything that made me feel like home @WayneRooney #Thankyou #ManUtd”
