Jamie Redknapp has claimed that Alexis Sanchez signing a new contract could boost Arsenal’s Premier League title hopes this season.
The Chile international’s situation at The Emirates has been a relentless source of speculation in recent months after both he and Mesut Ozil entered into the final 18 months of their deals with the north Londoners.
Sanchez is believed to be in talks with Arsenal about the possibility of extending his contract at The Emirates beyond the summer of 2018.
However, there is yet to be any official announcement at The Emirates about Sanchez’s future.
Arsenal are currently preparing for their Premier League clash against Burnley at The Emirates on Sunday afternoon.
And Redknapp feels that seeing Sanchez sign a new deal would be a big boost for the Gunners this season.
Writing in his column for Sky Sports, Redknapp said: “As long as everyone’s reasonable, Arsenal have to make it happen. And if they did get a new deal over the line in the coming months, imagine what a boost that would be for everyone at the club.
“They’re very much still in the Premier League title race, into the Champions League knockout stage and if Sanchez was to commit his long-term future to them it could really spur them on.
“It’s going to be tough for the club because he will be offered some huge deals from around the world, but they need to find a way to tie him down. He’s too important for them to let him leave.”
