Martin Keown explains what Liverpool must do without key forward

Martin Keown believes Liverpool to find a way of getting through the next month without Sadio Mane and keeping their Premier League title hopes alive.

The Senegal international headed off to the Africa Cup of Nations earlier this month after the forward scored in Liverpool’s 2-2 draw with Sunderland at the Stadium of Light.

Mane has proven a key member of Jurgen Klopp’s squad in recent months after a return of nine goals and four assists in 19 appearances in the Premier League last season.

The 24-year-old attacking midfielder moved to Liverpool in a £34m deal from Southampton in the summer transfer window.

Former Arsenal defender Keown has warned Liverpool that they face a tough run of fixtures without Mane as Klopp looks to keep the Reds on track in the Premier League title race.

“Philippe Coutinho coming back is very good news for Liverpool and they cannot get Sadio Mane back from the Africa Cup of Nations quickly enough,” Keown told The Daily Mail.

“Liverpool are going to have to nurse their way through this period without him.”

Liverpool are in third place in the Premier League table and seven points adrift of the current leaders Chelsea.
